Signs You Need a New Grill
At some point or another, our amazing grills unfortunately cease to perform efficiently. If your grill is no longer under warranty and having issues, it may be time to say goodbye. Here are some major signs you need a new grill:
- Cracked or Rusty Firebox
If you notice a lot of rust or cracks in the firebox or heat source, this is a telltale sign that it’s time for a new grill. A little rust can be eliminated with a stainless steel brush, but you won’t be able to fix the problem if there’s too much.
- Igniter Issues
If your igniter is having issues and it’s specifically integrated into the burner controls, it’ll be more difficult to replace compared to an igniter that’s separated from the controls.
- Uneven or Yellow Heat or Flames
The flame is uneven if it’s lower than usual or shooting out from the sides of the grill. If your grill is relatively new, you could try to diagnose the issue by cleaning the grill burners. If it’s an older or inexpensive grill, however, you’re probably better off getting a new one.
- Cracked Hoses or Connectors
A good way to test whether or not this is an issue is by mixing dishwashing liquid and water in a spray bottle and spraying over the hoses and connections to the gas tank. If bubbling occurs, this means you may have a leak.
- Cracked or Flaking Grates
You’ll definitely need to replace coated cast-iron grates if they’re cracked or flaking. Old, dirty stainless steel grates should be scrubbed down with a wire brush before being discarded.
- Grease Accumulation
Grease can easily build up over time if you don’t thoroughly clean your grill after each use. If your attempt to clean it goes to waste, it’s time for a new grill.
- Blocked Air Vents
If the vents are stuck or blocked beyond repair, a new grill is necessary.
- Poor Joints and Bases
You’ll need a new grill if the leg joints are rusty or the bases are unstable and repairs aren’t possible.
